A frontier for exploration, a new line of research

Isabelle Delannoy’s work is part of an exploration focused on expanding the pictorial field. Through her practice of painting, the artist develops a language in which the image gradually moves beyond the traditional framework of the canvas to take on other surfaces and materials. Textiles thus become a territory for exploration, extending the concerns of painting into a dimension that is both physical and spatial.

The work *Les Fleurs du Bien No. 26*, an oil on canvas measuring 200 × 200, was reimagined by the artist in a new format, 200 × 300 cm, before being hand-tufted by Manufacture Pinton. This artist’s rug is not intended as a decorative object, but as a work of art in its own right: it reflects a desire to transpose the painterly gesture into the material – in this case, wool and plant-based silk (Tencel) – whilst preserving its tensions, rhythms and balances.

Just as spectacular when placed on the floor as when hung on the wall, this textile work is no longer merely something to be looked at: it becomes part of the space and establishes a more direct, almost physical connection with the viewer.

The expertise of a centuries-old manufacturer: Pinton

This rug is hand-tufted in the workshops of Manufacture Pinton in Felletin, in the Creuse department, at the heart of the historic cradle of Aubusson tapestry—a craft recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Founded in 1867 and certified as an “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” (Living Heritage Company), Manufacture Pinton has woven works by Calder, Le Corbusier, and Fernand Léger, and continues this tradition today with contemporary artists.

A statement piece, straddling the line between art and design

Measuring 200 x 300 cm, this textile work is conceived as a statement piece, a convergence of drawing, color, and material. The wool and plant-based silk, hand-tufted by Manufacture Pinton, recreate the painterly gesture in three dimensions and relief, with nuances and variations in fiber height that shift as the light changes throughout the day. Produced in a limited edition of just three numbered and signed pieces, it can be placed on the floor or hung on the wall, like a contemporary tapestry that cannot be found in any other home.

Isabelle Delannoy creates a sophisticated style of painting, built up through successive glazes, brought together in several collections, including Les Fleurs du Bien. The painting that served as the inspiration for this artist’s rug has just been selected for the 123rd edition of the Salon d’Automne, which will take place from October 27 to November 1, 2026, at Place de la Concorde in Paris.
